Fresh off their impressive upset victory over the Colts, the 2-0 Jets are, for now, the talk of the football world. Ironically, they’re winning without doing any talking, a refreshing change from when Rex Ryan was blowing enough hot air to blanket the five boroughs.

According to Malcolm Jenkins, who gets his crack at Todd Bowles‘s boys in Week 3, it’s correlation, not coincidence.

The Eagles’ veteran safety told reporters Tuesday “this isn’t the Jets that you saw last year, this is a team that’s well-coached.”

A compliment for Gang Green and a not-so-subtle dig at its former coach in the same sentence. While it doesn’t quite compare to the ire that Jenkins’s ex-teammates have expressed toward Chip Kelly, it’s a daring feat nonetheless. There’s truth to what he’s saying, too.

Through two weeks, the Jets appear poised, disciplined and sharp on both sides of the ball. You could make the case that those qualities never appeared all together during Ryan’s six seasons in New York. And if you made that case, you would see why Ryan’s teams failed to reach the postseason for the last four consecutive years — an impressively bad span that ended with a 4-12 dud in 2014, after which he was finally (and rightfully) dumped.

Still, Jenkins needs to forget about Rex, at least until mid-December, when the Eagles host Ryan’s Bills in a tilt which will feature no brotherly love whatsoever. Because if his team isn’t careful now, and those “well-coached” Jets again bring their A-game, Philadelphia will be staring 0-3 in the face.

Friendly reminder: Only five teams in NFL history have made the playoffs after an 0-3 start.
